Arsenal have suffered a blow after Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana agreed to join Ajax.
The Gunners have been heavily linked with the Cameroon international who is currently serving the drugs ban imposed after he accidentally took pills prescribed for his wife which contained a banned substance.
That ban is now set to end on November 4th and, despite the interest from North London, Ajax has agreed to join Ligue 1 side Lyon for a fee of £6.8 million.
And that leaves Arsenal with a problem. Bernd Leno remains the number one, but he has previously intimated he would not be averse to a move elsewhere. Last season’s back-up Mat Ryan, who was on loan from Brighton, has now signed for Real Sociedad, meaning that there is a lack of cover in the position.
Icelandic international Alex Runarsson, signed from Dijon last year, proved out of his depth in senior English football, whilst teenager Arthur Okonkwo has just been promoted to the first-team squad.
Andy is an exiled English football fan living in Cyprus. He loves all sports but football is his abiding passion, and he still has dreams every now and then about scoring the winning goal in a Wembley Cup Final, even though his playing days are long gone. He follows most major leagues, across Europe at least, and has a favoured team in each. When he’s not watching, listening, reading or downloading podcasts about football, he spend his time worrying about his beloved Arsenal.
