Manchester United have blocked attempts by Roma to sign full-back Alex Telles on loan.
The Italian side are looking for a temporary replacement at left-back for Leonardo Spinazzola who picked up an SCL injury playing for Italy at the Euros. He could miss most of the season, although he is hoping to be back earlier than that.
Telles only joined United from Porto last summer for a £15 million fee, and was meant to provide competition to Luke Shaw. However, Shaw’s excellent form means that the was restricted to just nine Premier League appearances and he now looks like he may be surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.
United, though, have turned down the loan approach because they want to sell Telles permanently, even though that will leave then short of cover at left-back, with Brandon Williams being allowed to leave on loan this summer.
Southampton are the favourites to sign him.
