Newcastle United are close to agreeing another loan move for Arsenal midfielder Joe Willock.
Willock spent the second half of last season at St. James Park and his form helped them pull away from the relegation places, scoring eight goals, including a record equalling seven in seven games.
That sort of form was expected to see him compete for a place this season in an Arsenal midfield not exactly replete with goals, but his style does not suit Mikel Arteta’s tactical formation and it is thought better for his continued development that he play regular first-team football, rather than spend the coming season on the bench.
With no European football at the Emirates this season, the Gunners do not need such a large squad because there are fewer first-team minutes to go round.
However, before he departs, Willock is expected to sign a new long-term contract with the Gunners to protect his value.
