Manchester United are closing in on a dealt to sign Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane.
It has been reported that an agreement on personal terms has almost been reached, and that they are hopeful of concluding the deal in the next few weeks.
Real Madrid are keen to cash in on Varane this summer, because he is heading into the fianl year of his current contract at the Bernabeu, and has refused to sign a new deal with the Spanish club.
Madrid initially wanted £80 million for him, but realise that those expectations were unfounded, and United have offered substantially less than that for the 28-year old French international.
He is currently on holiday, but his preference is to head straight to England once that is completed, rather than have to report back to Real for pre-season training.
Acquiring a top quality centre-half to partner Harry Maguire has been one of United’s transfer objectives this summer, and it looks like they will be able to tick that one off the list soon.
