Despite interest from Manchester United, new Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann wants Leon Goretzka to stay with the Bundesliga side.
The 26-year old is about to enter the final year of his contract in Munich and has yet to agree a new deal.
That has led to speculation that the German champions would be willing to sell him in the current window, rather than let him walk away for free at the end of the coming season.
United have identified Goretzka as a possible alternative to Paul Pogba If they are not successful in tying him to a new contract at Old Trafford, but it seems the chances of landing the midfielder are unlikely.
Goretzka himself is said to favour remaining in Germany, and continuing the success he has enjoyed at Bayern. Since moving from Schalke in 2018, he has won three consecutive Bundesliga titles, and also won the Champions League with them in 2020.
