Southampton are increasingly confident of signing Manchester United defender Brqndoin Willims on loan for the coming season.
The South Coast side were interested ion the 20-year old last summer, but Uited were reluctant to let him leave then after his breakthrough season with the club.
However, with limited opportunities during the last campaign – he started just five games and made 14 appearances in all, – its is now felt best for his continued development if he is playing regular first-team football.
The Saints are in the market for a new left-back, having lost Ryan Bertrand when hs contract expired. He has subsequently joined Leicester City on a free transfer.
England under-21 international Williams is a graduate of the Manchester United youth academy, and made a his senior debut in 2019 as a substitute in an EFL Cup tie with Rochdale.
Last August he signed a new four-year deal at Old Trafford, with the option of a further year.
