Spurs have had an approach for Sevilla boss Julen Lopetegui turned down.
That is despite making what has been described as a “dizzying” offer for him to become their new manager.
Instead, the 54-year old wants to stay with the club who he helped win the Europa League in 2020, and then guided them to a Champions League finish last season.
The news was confirmed by Sevilla’s president Jose Castro who told a Spanish radio station that Lopetegui informed him of the offer, but also his rejection of it, saying that money was not the main factor for him, and that he could not think of a batter place to work than his current club.
It is the latest setback for Tottenham in their long hunt for a new manager, and now there are suggestions that they may be about to revive their interest in Nuno Espirito Sancho.
Discussions with the former Wolves boss initially broke down over hs terms and conditions.
