German defender Antonio Rüdiger is hoping to prolong his stay as a Chelsea player.
The 28-year-old is out of contract next summer, and, although he wants to sign a new contract, he has also indicated that he is willing to let his deal run down, enabling him to leave for free in 12 months’ time.
That puts the ball firmly back in Chelsea’s court.
The 28-year-old fell out of favour under Frank Lampard, but a change of manager in the shape of Thomas Tuchel saw a revival in his fortunes, and he rediscovered his best form towards the end of the season, starring in their Champions League success.
Back in January, Chelsea began the process of extending his contract in order to protect his value, with both AC Milan and PSG letting their interest be known. However, negotiations were then put on hold following the departure of Frank Lampard, and now Rüdiger, who is with the German squad at the Euros, is hoping hs representatives can kick-start talks again.
