Manchester United have edge closer in their attempts to sign defender Pau Torres from Spanish club Villareal.
Torres is currently with the Spanish squad at the Euros, where he has started both games so far. Discussions are expected to pick up pace once the tournament is concluded.
United have made signing another centre back a priority this summer, and having been linked with a number of names, there is growing confidence that they can geta deal done for Torres, who played against them in the Europa League final last month.
His performance in that match impressed club officials so much that they immediately placed him on the shortlist of candidates they want to partner Harry Maguire for next season.
The 24-year old came through the academy system at Villareal, and has made 88 senior appearances for them in all competitions, scoring 5 goals. He now has 10 senior caps for Spain having also featured for them at under-21 level.
