Napoli want to sign Chelsea full-back Emerson Palmieri.
However, the two clubs are locked in negotiations over Chelsea’s €15 m (£12.9) million valuation of the player.
That is not thought though to be the sticking point to any deal getting deal. More at issue are Emerson’s likely salary demands. He currently earns close to £3.9 million a year and that is a figure that Napoli are unwilling to match, especially as club president Aurelio De Laurentiis has said that cost reductions should be a priority.
However, new manager Luciano Spalletti, who replaced Gennaro Gattuso at the end of last season, has identified Emerson as his number one transfer target, so some accommodation may yet be reached between all parties.
Emerson is currently with the Italian squad for the Euros, although he has yet to make an appearance in the tournament so far for the team that currently top Group A and have already qualified for the knock-out stages of the tournament.
