Goalkeeper Mat Ryan is open to extending his stay at Arsenal.
The Australian international joined the Gunners on loan from Brighton until the end of the season in January, but is now due to return to his parent club.
However, he has already dropped broad hints that he would be happy to stay at the club he supported as a boy, getting up in the early hours to watch their games on TV in Australia, saying that he “enjoyed every minute of it”.
And he may well get his wish. Arsenal’s number one Bernd Leno’s future at the club is uncertain, with the German saying that he is ready for a new challenge. And Arsenal’s other back-up goalkeeper, Icelandic international Alex Runnarsson has proved, when called upon, that he is not yet up to Premier League standard.
With Robert Sanchez now firmly established as the number one at Brighton, opportunities for him on the South Coast are likely to be limited, so Ryan could be headed back to the Emirates, either on another loan, or permanently this time.
