Manchester United and Real Madrid remain miles apart in their valuation of centre-back Raphael Varane.
The Frenchman has just one year left on his his current deal with Real Madrid and there has been little signs that he is willing to sign an extension.
United, who are in the market for another defender this summer to partner Harry Maguire, have identified Varane as a top transfer target, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer urging them to bid for him.
However, Real value the French World Cup winner at £60 million, which is £20 million more than the opening bid which United are expected to table.
United are hoping that Real, who are in the middle of a financial crisis, will blink first and drop his price because of their need to raise revenue.
If Varanne does come to the club, it would place question marks over the futures of both Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly, who recently signed a new contract at Old Trafford.
