Spotify founder Daniel Ek will submit a formal bid to take over Arsenal by the end of this week.
The Swedish entrepreneur wants to buy the club from the Kroenke family who have owned it since 2011, and who are deeply unpopular with the club’s fan base, even before the failed ESL ;project.
Ek is reported to have secured the funding of £1.8 billion for the club, he claims to have supported all his life, which is the same sum that the Kroenke’s paid to buy out minority shareholder Alisher Usmanov.
The Kroenkes, who own a number of US sports franchises, have always insisted that they are not interested in selling, and that they remain committed to the club. Those involved in the bid have warned it could take many months of negotiation to potentially get them to change their minds.
