Ross Barkley is set to return to Chelsea at the end of the season.
The midfielder has been spending the season on loan with Aston Villa, but it seems increasingly unlikely that will translate into a permanent move.
The 27-year old began his spell in the West Midlands well, scoring on his debut as the side thrashed the champions 7 -2 at Villa Park, and then producing an excellent performance in the away defeat of Arsenal.
However, his progress was then interrupted by a hamstring injury that sidelined him for over a month, and he has struggled for form since then, scoring just once subsequently, against Southampton in January..
In recent weeks he has had to settle for a place on the bench and Villa manger Dean Smith insists there have been no talks about extending his stay.
He will still have two years left on his current deal at Stamford Bridge this summer
