Manchester United are being linked with a summer move for former keeper Sam Johnstone.
The 28-year-old came through their academy system, but never played a senior game for the first-team, instead embarking on a long series of loan moves, before he was finally sold to West Bromwich Albion in 2018, for a fee of around £6.5 million.
However, he ahs since impressed with the Baggies, and earned an England call-up.
United now are considering buying him back to serve as understudy to either Dean Henderson or David de Gea should one of them decide to leave the club.
Henderson is the man in possession of the jersey now, and United will not want their top earner de Gea to sit on the bench next season, so may decide to sell him this summer.
And that will create a vacancy that Johnstone could fill. West Brom, who seem set to return to the Championship, might be ready to sell the 28-year-old to get his wages off their books.
