City linked with Norwegian midfielder

Manchester City are being linked with a move for Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge.

Pep Guardiola is in the hunt for a replacement for club captain Fernandinho who is set to leave the Etihad at the end of the season when his current deal expires.

Berge looks destined to leave United who now look nailed on to drop into the Championship next season. They are 14 points from safety with eight games to play, and have an inferior goal difference to all the teams above them.

The Norwegian has not played for the South Yorkshire club since suffering a hamstring injury in a Premier League match with Manchester United in December, but hopes to return before the end of the campaign.

He was United’s record signing when they bought him from Belgian side Genk in January 2020, and this former side are entitled to a 20% sell-on fee with any subsequent transfer.
