Liverpool want to offer new contracts to four players who they regard as core to the team’s success.
The four are Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Alisson and Fabinho.
Salah is under contract until 2023, but he may be the most difficult of the quartet to tie down after recently intimating that he would be open to play for either Real Madrid or Barcelona.
However, whilst Liverpool know they could command a substantial transfer fee for their leading goal scorer, they have no intention of letting him go, knowing that it would be virtually impossible to replace him.
The other three players all signed in 2018, and Fabinho and van Dijk’s deals expire in 2023, whilst Alisson has a further year left on his contract.
Liverpool are resigned to losing Georginio Wijnaldum on a free transfer this summer, but are determined not to find themselves in the same position again with other key squad members.
