David Luiz may have played his last game for Arsenal.
The Brazilian missed the Gunners embarrassing home defeat to Liverpool on Saturday with a knee injury.
And now there are two possible solutions – either more rest or having to undergo surgery, with the club indicating the latter..
And that may signal the end of his career at the Emirates for the Brazilian, who is out of contract at the end of the season.
Now 33, Luiz joined Arsenal from neighbours Chelsea in 2019 for a reported £8 million fee, although the amount paid was revealed to be substantially more than that when agent fees and other bonuses were considered.
He has since been an erratic performer, capable of terrible defensive errors and picking up several red cards, but also has been one of the team’s best defenders at times this season.
However, given his age, many supporters believe that it is better to look for an upgrade in the summer, rather than offer him a further extension, which is what the club did at the end of last season.
