Chelsea have been given a major boost with news that one of their main summer transfer targets has hit a roadblock in talks about extending his deal with his current club.
AC Milan’s Gianluigu Donnaruma’s current deal with AC Milan expires in June, and, although the San Siro club are desperate to keep the 22-year-old, negotiations have reached an impasse, and there is a real danger that he could leave on a free transfer.
Havin initially offered him a five-year deal worth £100,000 a week, AC Milan upped their offer to £116,000 a week plus various incentives, but Chelsea are ready to gazump them by offering substantially more than that to a player who has been a first-team regular since the age of 16, and has already made 243 appearances for the Rossoneri.
Chelsea bought Édouard Mendy from Rennes last summer, and he is the current number one, but Donnaruma would represent an upgrade on him.
