Edison Cavani is to turn down the opportunity of staying at Manchester United for a further year.
Instead, he has decided that he wants to move to Argentina and sign for Boca Juniors.
Cavani joined United as a free agent on October after leaving French champions PSG in the summer, initially signing for a year, with the option of another 12 months.
United wanted to exercise that option, but Cavani has now decided that he is finished with European football, and wants to return to South America.
Joining Boca means that he will take a pay cut, but he is ready to sign a three-year deal with the Buenos Aires club, whom he grew up supporting aa a boy.
The Uruguayan international striker has scored six goals in Premier League starts, but has not played as many minutes for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side as he would have liked in recent weeks.

He loves all sports but football is his abiding passion, and he still has dreams every now and then about scoring the winning goal in a Wembley Cup Final, even though his playing days are long gone. He follows most major leagues, across Europe at least, and has a favoured team in each. When he’s not watching, listening, reading or downloading podcasts about football, he spend his time worrying about his beloved Arsenal.
