Liverpool are once again being linked with a move for Sporting Lisbon full-back Nuno Mendes.
The Anfield club had a £22 million offer for the left-back turned down last summer, and they opted to sign Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiakos instead.
However, the Greek has barely featured for Jurgen Klopp’s side, and they are looking for an upgrade who can challenge Andy Robertson for a first-team place.
Mendes has continued his impressive form with the Portuguese league leaders and has signed a new contract with Sporting which has seen his release clause increased to €70 million (£61 million).
However, like many clubs in Europe, Sporting have their financial problems because of the Covid-19 pandemic, and would be prepared to sell him for substantially less.
Liverpool though may face competition for his signature. Juventus, both Milan clubs and Real Madrid are also reported to be tracking him.
Andy is an exiled English football fan living in Cyprus. He loves all sports but football is his abiding passion, and he still has dreams every now and then about scoring the winning goal in a Wembley Cup Final, even though his playing days are long gone. He follows most major leagues, across Europe at least, and has a favoured team in each. When he’s not watching, listening, reading or downloading podcasts about football, he spend his time worrying about his beloved Arsenal.
