Real Madrid are prepared to sell French international defender Rafael Varane to Manchester United.
The Spanish champions are increasingly pessimistic about the chances of the 27-year old signing a new contract with them, and want to cash in this summer, rather than allow him to leave for free in a month’s time.
Varane has been a long-standing target of Manchester United who are in the market for a partner for Harry Maguire, and were prepared to bid for him after the 2018 World Cup, where he picked up a winner’s medal with France.
At the time his value was estimated to be in excess of £100 million, but heading into the final year of his contract, and with Real heavily in debt, he is likely to go for much less than that, with the La Liga side looking to raise funds to try and buy Kylian Mbappé from Paris Saint-Germain.
