Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is to give Thomas Tuchel a summer war chest of £260 million to spend in the transfer market.
That is regardless of whether the German is able to secure Champions League football for next season or not.
The West London club spent a record £225 million last summer, but, despite that outlay, Tuchel has been given the green light to spend big again when the transfer window opens once more.
Reports suggest that Tuchel’s top target is Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland. The Norwegian has a £65 million release clause in his contract, but that only comes into effect in the summer of 2022, so, if Chelsea want him before them they are likely going to have to pay substantially over the odds than that.
Dortmund will not want to let Haaland, who has scored 43 goals in as many appearances for them go. However, their financial situation may force them into accepting a deal.
