David Luiz is set to be offered a new deal by Arsenal.
The 33-year-old moved to the Emirates from Chelsea two years ago, initially on a one-year deal. However, that included the option for a further year, which the Gunners decided to take up.
Many of the club’s fans expected him to be moved on this summer to make way for younger players, but now it looks like Mikel Arteta wants to keep him at the club for a while longer, because of his positive influence in the changing room, especially on the younger players.
The club has a policy of only offering a one year deal to players over 30 – an exception was made for captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – so Luiz will be offered a further 12 months.
Luiz has had more than his fair share of disciplinary problems during his Arsenal career – three red cards, including one against Wolves at the start of this month.
However, for Arteta at least the good outweighs the bad.
