Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Jérôme Boateng from Bayern Munich.
The German international is out of contract at the Allianz Arena at the end of the season and is ow free to enter discussions with clubs from abroad.
And now pre-contract terms have been agreed for him to make the move to West London.
The 32-year-old has been a long-standing target for Chelsea, but that interest has deepened since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel at the club, who knows the player well from his time in the Bundesliga.
He will be Tuchel’s first signing as manager.
This will not be Boateng’s first spell in the Premier League – he played for Manchester City for a year before moving to Bayern in 2011.
A World Cup winner with Germany in 2014, he has played 346 games for Bayern and has won a whole armful of medals with them.
However, he has struggled with injuries in recent seasons so may be tested by the demands of English football.
