Liverpool turned down a late bid from Southampton to take 19-year-old full-back Neco Williams on loan for the rest of the season.
Williams has not played for Liverpool since their FA Cup win over Aston Villa last month, and has endured a difficult season, coming in for more than his fair share of criticism on social media for his performances.
Despite that, Jurgen Klopp does believe that Williams has a bright future at the club and given their other defensive issues, was unwilling to sanction a move. He is currently the only natural replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold in the squad.
However, Southampton did have better luck with forward Takumi Minamo, who Liverpool have agreed to loan for the rest of the season. The Japanese international was signed from Red Bull Salzburg a year ago, but has struggled to make an impression at Anfield, starting just four Premier League games.
