Arsenal are set to make decision on the short and long-term futures of three players before the transfer window shuts on Monday.
In the case of Shkodran Mustafi it is likely to end with his contract being cancelled so he can find a new club. It means that the Gunners will not receive a transfer fee for the German defender who current deal ends in the summer, but they will get his salary off their wage bill.
However, when it comes to Reiss Nelson and Ainsley Maitland-Niles, both go out on loan, having struggled for game time recently. Nelson was close to a loan in the summer but decided to stay and fight for his place at the Emirates.
Maitland-Niles was on the verge of a move to Wolves but Mikel Arteta then vetoed that. However, having broken through into the England team since, he is unhappy with his role on the bench, with Arsenal unable to decide his best position.
