German defender Shkodran Mustafi is in talks about cancelling his contact with Arsenal before the transfer window closes.
If the discussions reach a successful culmination, he will follows in the footsteps of Mesut Ozil and Sokratis Papastathopoulos who reached similar arrangements and have since subsequently joined Fenerbahçe and Olympiakos respectively.
The 28-year-old is out of contract in the Emirates in the summer, and has reportedly turned down a contract extension.
Mustafi has barely featured for the team in recent weeks, and the Gunners have enough available other options in central defence if they do allow him to leave.
Some fans may complain that allowing yet another failure to leave the club for nothing is further indication of the club’s failed transfer policy in recent years, and it is hard to argue with that stance. However, it will get his not inconsiderable wages off their books and free up a spot in their squad for another non-home grown player.
