Juan Mata looks increasingly likely that he will leave Manchester United at the end of the season.
He has less than six months left on his current deal and, although United have the option to extend it, as they have with other players in a similar position, they have shown no inclination to do so, in part because his sell-on value is declining because of his age.
The 32-year-old has started just six matches so far this season and has been pushed further and further down the pecking order.
Mata joined United from Chelsea for what was then a club record fee of £37.1 million and he ahs gone on to male 265 appearances from them, scoring 50 times, although his game time has been steadily reducing in recent seasons.
The Spanish international has won the DA Cup, League Cup and Europa League during his time at old Trafford.
Andy is an exiled English football fan living in Cyprus. He loves all sports but football is his abiding passion, and he still has dreams every now and then about scoring the winning goal in a Wembley Cup Final, even though his playing days are long gone. He follows most major leagues, across Europe at least, and has a favoured team in each. When he’s not watching, listening, reading or downloading podcasts about football, he spend his time worrying about his beloved Arsenal.
