Arsenal may sign a left-back before the current transfer window opens.
Following the decision to allow Sead Kolasinac to join Schalke on loan at the start of the month, there is no natural replacement in the squad for Kiernan Tierney, who has established himself as one of the best in the position in the league.
Bukayo Saka can play there, but moving him back robs the team of one of their most creative threats going forwards. Alternatively, Ainsley Maitland-Niles or Cedric Soares can also be deployed back there, but both are right-footed, and unbalance the set-up of the side.
Now Mikel Arteta has admitted that he is open to the possibility saying “the option is open and we will see what is available”.
The Gunners have spent the transfer window so far trimming their squad, with William Saliba joining Kolasinac on loan, Sokratis Papasthathopolous having his contract cancelled and Mesut Ozil finally departing North London. Now Arteta’s focus has shifted to incomings.
