Brighton keeper Mat Ryan has joined Arsenal on loan for the rest of the season.
Mikel Arteta said that the Gunners were looking for a reliable back-up to Bernd Leno, with Icelamdic signing Alex Rúnarsson not judged ready for Premier League level.
They were linked with Barcelona’s Neto and Freddie Woodman of Newcastle United but opted instead for 28-year old Ryan.
The move was confirmed by both clubs with Brighton saying “We wish him well at Arsenal and will be watching his progress there.”
Ryan joined Brighton from Va;lencia in 2017 and has made 121 appearances for them, keeping 28 clean sheets in the process. However, he has lost his first-team place this season to Robert Sanchéz.
Rúnarsson may now be allowed to leave on loan to gain more valuable first-team experience.
