Tottenham are considering making a summer move for Southampton striker Danny Ings.
The former Liverpool player is out of contract at St Mary’s in 2022, and is stalling about signing a new deal that would make him the club’s highest earner, with a disagreement over the size of his release clause.
He also wants the chance to play Champions League football again, something he does not think he will get with his current employer.
Tottenham have long been admirers of the 28-year-old and made an enquiry as to his availability in the last transfer window, as they continue to look for a long-term back-up to Harry Kane.
Carlos Vinicius was brought in from Benfica instead, but he is due to return to Portugal when his loan period ends.
Ings joined Southampton from Liverpool, initially on loan, before making the move permanent. He has scored almost a goal every two games for them since.
Andy is an exiled English football fan living in Cyprus. He loves all sports but football is his abiding passion, and he still has dreams every now and then about scoring the winning goal in a Wembley Cup Final, even though his playing days are long gone. He follows most major leagues, across Europe at least, and has a favoured team in each. When he’s not watching, listening, reading or downloading podcasts about football, he spend his time worrying about his beloved Arsenal.
