Barcelona’s hopes of signing Manchester City central defender Eric Garcia in the current window have been dashed.
Garcia was regarded as Ronald Koeman’s top transfer target in the current window. However, those plans have now been scuppered because of a delay to presidential elections to succeed Josep Maria Bartomeu. There is a lack of consensus among the various candidates who the club should be trying to sign.
The 20-year-old is out of contract at the Etihad in June and is free to talk to foreign clubs during the current window. Having refused to sign a new deal with City he still hopes to complete his move back to the club where he began his career in the summer, but his potential availability could alert other clubs.
Although highly rated at the Etihad, Garcia has struggled for game time at City, and has made just 30 senior appearances for the, most of those either in cup competitions or off the bench.
