PSV Eindhoven want to bring Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld back to The Netherlands in the summer.
They have already contacted his agent Stijn Francis about a possible move, although Alderweireld’s past association with big rivals Ajax are a stumbling block.
The Belgian international joined Ajax as a youngster, and went on to make 186 appearances for them in all competitions before first joining Atlético Madrid, and then making his way to the Premier League, first to Southampton on loan, and then joining Tottenham.
He is under contract with Spurs until 2023 and remains an integral part of Joe Mourinho’s plans, so it would take a major offer to persuade the club to let him leave.
Last September Alderweireld played his 100th senior game for the Belgian national side and is regarded as an automatic starter for Roberto Martinez’s side who are the current favourites to win this year’s European Championships.
