Marcos Rojo has been linked with a return to Argentina and Boca Juniors.
The 30-year-old is out of favour at old Trafford after persistent injury problems, and spent part of last season on loan with his boyhood club Estudiantes.
However, injury restricted him to just one appearance, with the Covid-19 pandemic causing the rest of the Argentine season to be suspended.
He is widely expected to leave Old Trafford in January, and both Newcastle and Sheffield United have expressed an interest in signing him.
However, he is likely to reject the chance of staying in England and the Premier League, instead opting to return home with Boca.
No formal offer has yet been made for his services, but talks between the two clubs are said to be progressing.
Rojo joined United from Sporting Lisbon in 2014, and has since gone on to appear for them 122 times, although his time in England has been dogged by injury problems.
