Reiss Nelson is not one of the players who will be allowed to leave Arsenal in the January transfer window.
Mikel Arteta has made it clear that one of his priorities in the next month is to trim his overblown squad. Sead Kolasinac has already gone back to Schalke on loan, and Sokratis Papastathopoulos is closing in on a move to Fenerbahçe.
And there was speculation that Nelson, who has yet to start a game in the Premier League this season, and has not played in any competition since the start of December could be about to join them.
However, Arteta has now clarified that the reason for his absence has to do with injury, and that it was his fault for not clarifying his situation earlier. He said “it was probably my mistake not to clarify the situation and what is happening”.
The England under-21 international impressed during the Gunners Europa League campaign during the autumn, and has appeared twice off the bench in their Premier League campaign.
