Manchester United have activated an option in Jesse Lingard’s contract meaning that the 28-year-old is now tied to the Old Trafford club until June 2022.
It is seen as a move to protect his value, despite the fact that he has yet to feature in either the Premier League or Champions League so far for the club this season.
In the summer, his representatives held talks with several clubs in England and Europe about a move for their client,. But nothing materialised at that time. However, there is now renewed speculation that he could be set for a loan move in the January window, with Real Sociedad one of his possible options.
Lingard has had to isolate on self-isolate on several occasions recently having come into contact with people who had Covid-19, and has also contracted the virus himself.
He has won the Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup during his career with United.
