Georginio Wijnaldum wants to stay at Liverpool.
The Dutch international will decide in the coming days whether to sign a new contract with the Premier League champions with Barcelona still hopeful of luring him to Catalonia to join his former national team manager Ronald Koeman.
He is out of contract in June, and talks over a new deal at Anfield have stalled.
Jurgen Klopp wants Wijnaldum to stay at the club, and consistently picks him in his teams, but the sticking point in negotiations over a contract extension has been the terms and the number of years on offer. The 30-year-old is settled on Merseyside and has a young family who he does not want to disrupt, but he is looking for remuneration which he believes fits his status in the squad.
As ever in these games of brinkmanship, it may come down to whoever is willing to compromise, and who blinks first.
