Arsenal are to open talks with defender Rob Holding over a new deal at the club.
In the summer he was close to agreeing a loan move to Newcastle only for the Gunners to change their mind and retain hiss services for the season. Despite the club’s difficult start to the campaign Holding has been named in the starting line-up for twelve of their 14 Premier League games, and wore the captain’s armband in the defeat at Everton on Saturday.
Mikel Arteta has become a big fan of the 25-year-0old, who is under contract until 2022, and now wants to secure his long-term future with the club.
Holding joined the Gunners from Bolton Wanderers in 2014, and has made 93 appearances for them, although his time at the club has been plagued by injuries, with an ACL injury in December 2018 ruling him out of action for 9 months.
He has won the FA Cup twice with Arsenal.
