Lucas Torreira’s agent has sought to downplay speculation that his loan spell to Atlético Madrid could be cut short and he might return to Arsenal in January.
The Uruguayan international moved to Atlético on a seas-long loan on transfer deadline day, but ahs so far struggled for game time under Diego Simeone. And with the Gunners facing major problems in the league, there have been suggestions that he may still have a part to play at the Emirates this season.
However, Paolo Benancur, speaking on behalf of his client, has insisted that Torreira is just starting to get used to his new environment, and that he is fully focused on helping Atlético challenge for honours this season. He said “Lucas is calm and happy and has nothing in his mind beyond continuing with Atletico”.
24-year-old Torreira joined the Gunners from Sampdoria in 2018 in a £26 million deal. However, he found it hard to adapt to life in England, and, after an encouraging first season, found himself on the fringes of Mikel Arteta’s plans.
