Arsenal are set to miss out on their main January transfer target with the news that Red Bull Salzburg’s Dominik Szoboszlai is set to join RB Leipzig instead.
He will sign a five-year deal with the Red Bull sister club when the January window opens.
The Gunners wanted to bring the 20-year-old Hungarian international to the Emirates to help solve their creativity problems in midfield, whilst AC Milan were also heavily interested in signing him.
However, he has chosen to stay in the Red Bull “family” with Leipzig ready to pay his 25m (£22.9m) release clause. The transfer is expected to be confirmed before Christmas.
Long considered one of the best young talents in Europe, Szoboszlai has had an impressive season for club and country, scoring the last-minute play-off winner that booked Hungary’s place in next summer’s European championship.
The Gunners will need to turn their attention elsewhere and may revive their interest in Lyon’s Houssem Aouar.
