Liverpool’s hopes of signing defender Perr Schuurs from Ajax have been dashed after the 20-year-old has said he is not interested in a move at this stage.
The Premier League champions have been linked with a host of players as they look to solve their defensive injury crisis, with both Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez long-term absentees and unlikely to play again this season.
Schuurs is one of the names that has been mentioned more than once but he has made it clear that he is still in his first full year with Ajax, and that he envisages himself staying there for two more seasons at least, and that immediate aim is to help the Dutch side win trophies.
Jurgen Klopp had the chance to see Schuurs in action at first-hand on Tuesday night when Liverpool played Ajax in the Champions League at Anfield. He played well but he could not stop his side slipping to defeat after a goalkeeping error gave Curtis Jones the chance to score the only goal.
