United lining-up Director of Football

Manchester United’s long search for a Director of Football could be over.

The Old Trafford side are one of the few premier League sides that currently do not have anybody performing such a role, and it has been one of the reasons attributed to their transfer policy being somewhat disjointed in recent years.

Various names have been suggested for the position, including a number of distinguished ex-players, but now they may have alighted on Marcel Brands instead.

The 58-year-old Dutchman is fulfilling a similar role at Everton, where he has been credited with bringing the likes of James Rodriguez and Allan to the club. However, his contract at Goodison Park is up next summer, and if United were to offer him the job, he would find it hard to turn them down.

Brands joined the Merseyside club in 2018 after a long career in Dutch football with the likes of PSV Eindhoven, AZ Alkmaar and RKC Waalwijk.
