The 58-year-old Dutchman is fulfilling a similar role at Everton, where he has been credited with bringing the likes of James Rodriguez and Allan to the club. However, his contract at Goodison Park is up next summer, and if United were to offer him the job, he would find it hard to turn them down.
Brands joined the Merseyside club in 2018 after a long career in Dutch football with the likes of PSV Eindhoven, AZ Alkmaar and RKC Waalwijk.
