Manchester City have decided to end their interest in signing Lionel Messi next summer.
The Argentine wants to leave the Nou Camp and was linked with a move to the Premier League side in the last transfer window, with PSG also reported to be monitoring his situation.
However, City will not be pursuing the matter further because, even for him, his £100 million wages are a stumbling block, especially whilst their match day income continues to be badly impacted by the pandemic. It is also recognised that signing one player on such big wages would destabilise the team and also, whilst still a great player, the 33-year-old is not the force that he used to be.
Pep Guardiola, who had such a close relationship with Messi from their time together at Barcelona believes that Messi should see out his career at the team he joined as a 13-year-old.
