Barcelona are ready to step-up their pursuit of Manchester City centre-back Eric García.
The 19-year-old was heavily linked with a move back to Barcelona – where he began his youth career – during the last transfer window, but, in the end, the Spanish club failed to match City’s valuation of the player.
That is despite the teenager being out of contract at the Etihad next summer and refusing to sign a new deal.
However, not Barcelona need to find a replacement for Gerard Piqué who suffered a cruciate ligament injury during Saturday’s defeat to Atlético Madrid, which could rule him out for five months. He is due to see a specialist for a second opinion.
That is likely to prompt them to bid again for García when the window opens again, and with him not in the first-team picture at the moment under Pep Guardiola, they may eb prepared to listen to the right offer this time, rather than lose him for free in seven months’ time.
