Manchester City have made finding a long-term replacement for Sergio Agüero a transfer priority.
And now they are considering a bid for Benfica’s Darwin Núñez.
Agüero is the club’s record goal scorer but he is now 33-years old and is in the last year of his current contract at The Etihad. He has long spoken of his desire to end his career back in his native Argentina, and it is not clear anyway whether City would be prepared to offer him a new contract anyway, given his recent injury struggles.
Núñez is a 21-year old Uruguayan international who began his career with Penarol before switching to Almeria is n Pain. He only joined the Portuguese club in the summer, but has made a big impression already, scoring 5 goals in ten appearances in all competitions.
Capped four times by Uruguay at senior level, he has scored twice for his national side.
Andy is an exiled English football fan living in Cyprus. He loves all sports but football is his abiding passion, and he still has dreams every now and then about scoring the winning goal in a Wembley Cup Final, even though his playing days are long gone. He follows most major leagues, across Europe at least, and has a favoured team in each. When he’s not watching, listening, reading or downloading podcasts about football, he spend his time worrying about his beloved Arsenal.
