Portuguese defender tipped to solve Liverpool injury crisis

Olympiakos defender Ruben Semedo is the latest name linked with a switch to Anfield in January to help solve the club’s injury crisis at the back.

Now there are reports that he could be about to sign a five-year contract for a fee of about £8 million when the window opens again.

They have already lost Virgil van Dijk for the rest of the campaign, whilst Joe Gomez is likely to miss a substantial part of the season after undergoing knee surgery. On top of that Trent Alexander-Arnold has been ruled out for a month with a calf problem.

A Portuguese international, Semedo has previously played for Sporting Lisbon and Villarreal, before his move to Athens to join the Greek side in July last year.

In August, Liverpool signed lefty-back Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiakos as well.
