Manchester United have made a U-turn about offering Mason Greenwood a lucrative new contract.
They wanted to reward him for an impressive start to his Old Trafford career last season, but have had a change of mind because of his poor training performances, whilst he has also turned up late for practice sessions several times.
After a breakthrough campaign last term, he has struggled this season and has scored just twice. He was left out of the United squad completely for the trip to Everton, ostensibly because he was ill. However, inside sources insist it was more to do with his off-the-field issues.
Greenwood’s exclusion from Gareth Southgate’s England plans are continues. He and Phil Foden were both sent home in disgrace after making their international debuts for England against Iceland in September for breaching the bio-secure bubble at the team’s hotel. But whilst Foden has since been rehabilitated back into the squad, Greenwood remains out in the cold.
