Liverpool’s boosts of signing Austrian defender David Alaba have been given a boost.
The 28-year-old is in the final year of his current contract at Bayern Munich and, though the German champions want him to extend his stay at the club, talks over a new deal have collapsed.
That means that he could sign a pre-contract agreement with a new club in January, and Liverpool have been heavily linked with him.
The Anfield side are in the market for defensive reinforcements after Fabinho joined Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip on the treatment table.
Alaba can play in a variety of positions including central midfield, on either wing, or as full-back. However, these days he is more often preferred in the centre of defence.
He joined the Bayern academy system as a teenager and has since gone to play nearly 400 games for them. In his career at the Allianz Arena he has won 9 league titles, 6 German Cups, and the Champions League twice.
