It was widely expected that Kalidou Koulibay would be a Premier League player by now.
He was closely linked with a move to the Eihad and Manchester City in the summer, to such an extent that they even had a draft template on their website announcing his arrival.
In the end though the deal fell through because City were not prepared to meet Napoli’s £70 million valuation of the player, opting for Rúben Dias of Benfica instead.
However, there is now renewed speculation linking Koulibaly with Liverpool this time. They are in the market for a new centre-back after the season ending tackle on Virgil van Dijk, whilst Joel Matip and Fabinho are also injured.
There is better news on Fabinho – the hamstring injury he picked-up in the Champions League against Midtjylland on Tuesday night Is not as bad as first feared, and he is only set to miss three matches.
Koulibaly is rated as one of the best defenders in Europe, and, after an injury-hit season, is back to his best this campaign.
